I’ve been listening to Jorma Kaukonen’s remastered and re-released Quah. It was a record I had when I was about 16 years old in Toledo, Ohio. The guys at our local record store (Boogie Records) turned me on to it, because I was obsessed with Leo Kottke and they wanted to broaden my horizons. Besides, I think I had bought all of his records, and all of Jesse Colin Young’s solo records, too. I listen to Quah over and over for weeks. Last month, John picked up a copy of the newly minted version on CD at a concert in Albany, NY. Wouldn’t you know, I remember every lyric and lick. I believe the deeply written words set onto Jorma’s passionate guitar work may just have saved my life back then. Something about singing along to “I’ll Be Alright Someday…” with its awesomely buoyant riffs helped me know that it was true!
Love to hear your stories about your life raft records… the one’s that carried you through questionable times…
